Set that expression

Set that expression:

The right amount of happy and reserved,

Frank with a hint of secretiveness.

Easy come, easy go, they say.

The world will not need you if it understands you,

That’s what you think.

And yet, when she clicks that photograph,

Then turns off the umbrella lights,

The darkness that descends makes you feel smaller, yes,

But with a silent sigh of relief.

When was it ever about the paperwork anyway?

Or has that come to be all,

Are you mummed by your own shrieks?

I saw a girl walking down the road today.

She gave me a ruthlessly open, unassuming smile.

I tried to be polite,

My mandibles were being torn –

I nodded and kept to my path.
